Chapter 11: How Social Media is Applied

Social media can be applied in so many different ways. Social media can be used to create conversation, it can tell stories, it can be used to market as well. There are a few different specializations; there is entertainment, sports, crisis communication, and journalism.

Entertainment specialization creates content to generate buzz on something or to take action. Some of the things to keep in mind for entertainment include making sure you have a strategy, get people behind your brand, be aware trolls, and identify any platforms that could help you out.

In crisis communication the crisis can come from a message, situations, or responses. Some examples of crises in social media include rogue employees, underestimating the impact, not doing research, and not understanding the tone and concern.

Social media and journalism work together to get people their news. Using social media to share news allows stories to be more easily reported in real time, helps to find more stories, and allows journalists to engage with their readers.

In sports social media can be used very creatively, and is great way to share information. Some things to keep in mind include networking, investing in skills, don't go too strong on opportunities, and don't get distracted.
